     We are a small family kennel in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia, city of Hurricane. Why "Black Sea" then? Well, we are originally from the beautiful shores of the Black Sea in Odessa, Ukraine, and proud of our heritage. So, we picked the name which connects us with our homeland, and also fits so perfectly to the Portuguese Water Dogs, because sea is a very natural element of breed as well as ours! Before PWDs our family had German Shepherds. We loved this breed, but allergy problems of our kids made us think about a change...

   So, we started to look  for a breed with all the desirable qualities:

 - Non-shedding (basically hypoallergenic),
 - Family-type,
 - Working and guarding abilities, 
 - Intelligent,
 - Strong and Healthy,
 - And, of-course, good looking. 

It took several years of searching and waiting until our lovely Portuguese Water Dog Sofia (Ribatchka Sonia of Lolyka, RN) entered our lives in May ‘04... We traveled to a little Canadian town to get her from our breeder Louise Turcotte. Although the trip was long and adventureous to say the least, it was well-worth it! Since then life was never the same.
